Paintings from the Heart

Hi! My name is Lisa Starck Donovan. I love animals, and watercolor painting. I love painting pet portraits, because of the deep connection we have with our pets. I think all animals are sentient beings that have feelings and a soul. This is what I want to show when I paint their portraits.

I started watercolor painting in 2015, in Frederick Wong's class at the Art Students League of NY. He was a great teacher, who emphasized the immediacy of the medium, and how to work directly, and boldly when painting from life. I also studied with Marcelo Daldoce, who taught me so much about thinking in watercolor, planning a painting, working in layers, and also being 'in the moment' when you are painting. I continue to learn more about the medium with each painting I paint.
